Agile and low-impact thinning

When thinning in dense forests, a harvester manoeuvred with both ease and agility without impacting standing forest is a must.

Our thinning harvesters are designed to do just that. Thanks to their compact size, they can operate in confined spaces and both the cab and the crane are designed for smooth movements to reduce the risk of damaging standing forest.

Another advantage is our tried-and-tested parallel crane, which simplifies crane operation. Thanks to a combination of strength and speed, it also contributes to efficient work methods.

A good overview simplifies the work

While good visibility is always an advantage, in thinning it is especially important. Our harvester cab is designed to provide the operator with extremely good views of both the head and the treetops. Moreover, our thinning harvesters are also lower than the larger machines, enabling you to see the trees from a better angle when thinning.

In a Komatsu harvester, you sit facing the same direction as the crane, which makes thinning easier as you can see exactly where you can extend the crane. This reduces the risk of misjudging the crane's position, meaning less damage to standing forest.

Low ground pressure and high stability

The XC machines are specially developed for logging in hilly terrain and on soft ground. Thanks to the 8-wheel design, our machines have a lower ground pressure, which makes them more gentle on the ground.

A factor that's also important when operating in demanding conditions is stability. Thanks to the Komatsu-concept, our harvesters have a design that contributes to making them among the most stable harvesters on the market. The XC machines take this one step further, with a double oscillating bogie on the rear frame, which makes sure the machine follows irregularities in the terrain in a smooth and forgiving manner while delivering excellent manoeuvrability in challenging terrain conditions.

Smart Crane Harvesters

Crane operation at its easiest

For a harvester operator, an easily operated crane is important for ensuring a productive working day. With Komatsu Smart Crane, the crane – from the main boom all the way to the tip of the telescopic arm – is controlled with a single, smooth lever movement.

Thanks to the crane’s precision and responsiveness, the operator can easily steer the head where they want it, contributing to a more relaxed way of working. A relaxed operator can keep up a high and steady production during the day and still feel more refreshed at the end of the working day. Advantages that will be seen in both profitability and the operator’s well-being.

MaxiFleet

Smart Forestry

Smart Forestry gives you access to a collection of digital services that help make the workplace safe, smart, productive and sustainable - whether you have one or a hundred forest machines. You can keep track of your machines, collaborate with colleagues, and make wise decisions based on facts.

Smart Forestry consists of three different applications, making it easy for you to find the one that suits you and your business.

MaxiFleet Precision mindre

Smart Forestry Precision

Smart Forestry Precision uses the latest technology in satellite positioning to determine the machine’s position with an error margin of just a few centimetres. This paves the way for productive and smart work methods where the operator is provided with key information and support to enable informed decisions.

There are several useful functions within Precision, like the ability to create exact, digital fences to mark the borders of a work area or around protected areas. It's also easier to classify stems based on environmental considerations with the stem code visualisation tool.
